first sketches in watercolor moleskine

I used to hate to start a new sketch book because I wanted everything to be really great and then if one sketch went badly I wouldn't work in it anymore. So now my new way is to put something really bad in it right away and then things only get better and you can't wreck it because its all ready messed up.

So this brand new moleskine watercolor (my first) got really messed up - I got things upside down and sideways - So now I wont be afraid to mess it up because it was messed up from the start -- but I do like the apple and the blueberries the peach and the kiwi.

These are done with inktense and watercolor pencils - I ordered 20 tubes of Daniel Smith water colors they are on their way -- wooo hoooo they shipped out today--I can't wait to try them out on the paper in this book.

I was so touched to read your message on my blog. Sorry you lost your Dad too early. It's always too early, isn't it!

I visited your website and was blown away! One of my sisters built and played hammer dulcimer for years, but child-raising took her away from it. I was also started to see John McCutcheon. I'm wondering if he's the guy I grew up with in Northern Illinois. He grandfather was a famous painter.

Thank you again for your sympathetic words, Kathleen!

Gawd, this is a wonderful first page, and the apple to is BITE for! You are really flying with those colored pencils. Great work.

As I near the end of my current handbook, I too have a watercolor moleskin awaiting me... I'll try your method perhaps to get over the jitters about messing up that beautiful book....
I'm so jealous... 20 tubes of DS paint... I have 1... a tube of green from him... it is a yummy dark green. Can't wait to see what you do with his paints... what colors did you get?

I love the fruit. The apple looks so real! Also I am getting ready to work on a my style journal entry inspired by the one you did.

have SO enjoyed looking at your work! You are so talented! I'm a budding artist, and I posted some sketches on my blog...would you do me a favor and take a look and give me an honest opinion, would like one from someone who is much better than I! I would really appreciate it!

Kathleen I think they are all lovely. And I just want to take a bite out of that apple and peach! Yummy! I love the concept of messing it up at first. You're great.
