now this is more like it (I think)
I couldn't listen to the debate any longer so I tried one more time to get this -I'm sick of it-- but this was quicker and I think better than any other try -at sketching this particular scene.
My goal with these sketches is not to make great paintings but to acquire the ability to sketch a good approximation of a scene - I want clean lines and color in a fairly short period of time - so this try is much closer to my goal than any others I don't know why this is so difficult for me but this try was better and took under 10 minutes
I used a timer when I did this sketch - micron pen time was under 10 minutes and the painting part was very close to 10 minutes- I have been saving these dried out sunflowers for a month so I could sketch them and tonight was the night.
Both done in my home made accordion fold sketch book small page size 3.5" x 5.5"

I love both of your sketches! Especially the dried sunflower...I like to see the beauty in everything...must be a quirk I have! I posted a dead sunflower arrangement on flick'r...must feel sorry for the underdog! I agree with you about sketching...I go in streaks...sometimes fast/sometimes slow and detailed, sometimes serious/sometimes cutsie! Must be the mood or the moon (full moon, etc). Have a great weekend
You are really taking off with your sketches/watercolor works! Its fun to see your progress! I went to the craft/art store yesterday and looked thru the watercolor books and wasnt please with any I saw...think I'm gonna have to look online or just experiment as well.....do you sketch in pen or pencile?
I enjoyed your blog. Your paintings are very nice. I like the flower!
Beautiful light on the first sketch, and the sunflower is awesome!
Kathleen, I just added my sunflowers to my blog...and also put them in a set entitled flowers so that you can see them. Thanks for looking at both! Have a great day. It is so beautiful here in Michigan--wonderful sun and great temperature!
Oops! one more comment...I am cleaning today also---have had toilet bowl cleaner in bowl for over an hour, started to sort through clothes--bed now covered, vacuumed until bag filled up and now taking a break! Do you get 15 minutes for every hour worked...I have worked 2 hours-- so that must be 30 minutes I have. Ha!
I can't go to bed until I clean off the bed from sorting out clothes for goodwill! I finally did get the toilet cleaned, but only because I needed to use it! I was busy outside trying to get reference photos of the geese flying overhead! We both had better get moving or we will be sleeping on the floor. Thank you for the comment about my gourds---I sometimes think I am out of it (my gourd). Take care
I have presented you with an award on my blog...Pop in and pick it up at you leisure! :) Spread the JOY!
