September Virtual sketch date

My first virtual sketch date except I don't think I registered in time - next month I will -

I just saw Susan's and loved it-- Here are my two little water color sketch versions - in the first one I did not have a reference just memory from looking at the picture in the second one I had printed out the picture to have a reference -(computer and studio are at opposite ends of the house so I can't just look at my screen)

I did light sketches with gray watercolor pencil for both but went back in with a micron on the first one because it looked dull

Kathleen, I just saw your comment this morning. Sorry about that. I've added you to the list on the VSD blog. I like your sketches and am impressed that you were able to sketch such a complex image from memory!

I really like that second one...just the essence and wonderfully captured. You've explained the personality of that flower with beautiful brevity.

I really like what you did with these. Especially the second, you achieved an immediacy with water color that still eludes me.

Oh! That's NICE!

Interesting to see two versions of the same subject. I like the first one with the added fine lines. It is fresh and simple. Nice work.

Both are great, I think I prefer the second one, with the darker background, even more. There's a new award waiting for you on my blog if you want to pick it up!

These are great!
The flower petals on your second watercolor are just fabulous!

It's amazing that you did the first one from memory - very close to the picture. The second one has such a nice impressionist feel to it - very nicely done!!

I like the freedom of your first sketch but the second one catches the graceful rhythm of the petals.

I really like the loose feeling in the petals of your second painting. Very nice.

I like the first one best, with the micron pen added. Nice effect!

I like the second one best, but they both are charming. There's a spontaneity you've achieved that I really enjoy

I always like pen and watercolor as I have said on some of the other posts but the second is exquisite. It looks so effortless.

I like the second one best as well. It says 'flower' and it says'effortless watercolour' - flow, puddle and edge. It's lovely.

Fabulous paintings - so glad you managed to get them done - the second one appeals to me the most, it is lovely.
