Bridges Revisited - it's a mindset - K.I.S.S.
O.K. so I went to Scribble talk and got a reference photo from their image library then after seeing Tracey Latorelli's lovely pastel sketches I decided that I would do the bridge in pastel -
But then it happened ... I got out a LOT of pastels --several sets of pencils, Nupastels, Yarkas, Unison's, Rembrandts I cut a sheet of wallis into little 4X6 pieces perfect for my little sketch and proceeded to spend hours overworking and not SKETCHING (see overworked lower bridge ^ above)
So I quit and went to my computer and ordered Danny's books read some more posts - and finally went back to my studio -- telling myself to K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid !!!) and put all pastels away except for one small set of pencils and spent 15 minutes making the sketch on top -- And I am pleased because it is a sketch - This was a big step for me -

Beautiful bridges!
I only have ready the colors I think I'll need in one medium. Of course, it's more of being lazy with me, and KISS works well with that.
Beautiful!!
Good for you! You're such a good draughtsman, it's no surprise that you'd obsess on the drawing part. It's instructive to see both of these and to see how much more oomph and life the top one has. I think the bottom one is lovely, too, though---a longer drawing would benefit from different color choices, perhaps.
I love your sketches and ideas. Thanks for sharing them. I've been too intimidated to post my sketches on Everday Matters - I know I'll get up the nerve someday.
Great job. I know exactly what you mean about over doing it. I to find myself working it to much and then I am left with no 'sketch' adn a crumby painting!Very discouraged too.
So KISS i will remember.
Thanks for sharing the entire process. Way to go to hang in there too!

Thanks for your comments on your painting process! I wish I had read them last evening - I spent my painting time overworking my watercolor. Perhaps I was excited about using my new Schmincke box for the first time! Both of your bridges are lovely. Each has a different personality and shows your care and talent.
How are you familiar with KISS?
Asks the psychologist/neice.
OH i like these both very much...lovely job!
KISS something I need to remember too. This finished sketch is really excellent though!
There's a lesson for all of us in this, so thanks for sharing it with us. Less really is more, and I think you excelled in the top sketch. It's just lovely in its simplicity
The one with 'less' is more than just doing nothing. The one with 'more' is less bright than the one with 'less'.
Either way, both are beautiful.
i like the darker one it looks so reel.
