JUL BOK

Water color and micron pen in moleskine watercolor sketch book 8 1/2" x 5"

My husband was born in Sweden and came to the US with his family when he was 13 years old--- that was many many many many many years ago. We have a big Christmas eve meal that includes many traditional Swedish dishes. We decorate the house and tree with a lot of Swedish Christmas decorations. My favorite decorations are the straw goats they are called Jul Bok - In Sweden there are trolls called tomten who bring gifts on Christmas eve in a sled pulled by goats - so these straw goats are kind of like reindeer - sort of --

I'm not sure how many of these we have this one is about 12" tall I have one that is close to three feet tall - Our tree has lots of straw ornaments, red hearts, paper Dala horses and sometimes Swedish flags.

Here is Boogie and the Jul Bokken waiting for Santa

Absolutely great rendering of the Jul Bok....just perfect. Years ago I researched them for a St Lucia dummy board I did---and they are not an easy draw.

Your drawing of the goat is awesome! I didn't know of this tradition. Your tree and goats are lovely, and the little dog with his red coat is too cute! (perfectly dressed for christmas too : )

I always love your tree! And will really miss the Christmas eve dinner this year, I'll be substituting traditional Italian.

Beautiful! Outstanding painting and thanks for the info about your tradition. I always loved a tree with home made ornaments and decorations. It means more when the whole family can add to it that way.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and thanks for sharing with us.

Hi Kathleen,

He is lovely. The rendering is wonderful. And the ones under your lovely Christmas tree are just so neat. I'd love to have one at my place. Never know I might just find one here in NZ. The little guy with the sweater on just finished the picture nicely.

Take care
Liz

Hi, Kathleen:

Excellent subject matter....

I especially love the softness of the drawing, and I agree w/Strawberry Blonde! Your Christmas tree is just beautiful.

Wishing the best for you and yours thru the holiday season..

Warm regards,
Tracey
