A Learning Experiece & my favorite poem

Another page for Mandy's Journal this one was not assigned -- just do whatever you want to do.... I wanted to include this poem somehow -- I just LOVE this poem - at first I thought about illustrating all the little images -- stars, birds, grain, etc. - but I realized that would get way to busy and the images would be too small.. so I went to a local cemetery during my lunch to find angel statues - its a huge cemetery but I only found one angel she was at the grave of a very young woman who died around 1917 --I sketched the angel with colored pencils but when I went to write the poem -- the wax in the colored pencils severely inhibited my ability to write the poem

Lesson learned don't plan on using ink over color pencil - Here is a photo of the angel

wow! I could tell it was a cemetary angel before you even said it was. I love stone angels-you did this one so nicely I really like the hair and the golden lichen on the stone. way to go!

I love that poem too, Kathleen...so full of hope. We had it read at my first husband's memorial service...

Your angel is just beautiful...sorry about the learning experience, but it IS good to know.

Love the way you rendered the angel... and the poem is a good one. Wonder if you did it the other way around and inked it first... would the pencils be transparent enough to still read the poem?

Kathleen:

The graceful face of this angel is testimony to the emotion involved. The pallette you chose is perfect, as well.

You have struck a very personal chord for me with this entire piece.

I thank you for sharing this poem....You see, my son will not forgive me for never visiting his little sister's grave. I have sent it along to him in the hope that by reading it he will, at least, understand why; and smile.

Wonderful work, Kathleen. Be proud.

I have finally caught up on reading your blog. I have been offline for several days due to my computer crashing and family in town for 10 days. BTW...Your painting was a hit at Sorra's party. Besides Sorra, it was the main attraction. I think all of your work lately is stupendous. I love the 'biker' journal too. Your angel looks better than the photo. I will hopefully be posting soon. I am currantly using my husbands laptop so I don't have the scanner uploaded to this computer. I have been sketching like crazy though. LOL Kathleen!!
